Sweet Temptations – Monkey Bread on Steroids
WELCOME TO SWEET TEMPTATIONS!
Every January I try to eat from my pantry and freezer. I try to eliminate grocery shopping except for dairy, eggs and fruit. This helps me to reduce my stockpile, use food that might expire if not used and reduce my grocery budget. So that said, I had several cans of refrigerator biscuits that I had to use. So I thought I would make monkey bread but decided to do it with a little panache. These are definitely not low-cal but they are really good.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 cup butter
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 1 package of cream cheese
- 2 tubes of refrigerator biscuits
Directions:
- Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease bunt pan with cooking spray.
- In storage plastic food bag, mix granulated sugar and cinnamon.
- Cut block of Cream Cheese and into 20 cubes.
- Separate biscuits and place a cream cheese cube into the center of each biscuit. Fold biscuit around the cream cheese to form a ball. Drop biscuits into sugar and cinnamon and shake to coat.
- In a medium saucepan, melt butter, stir in brown sugar, pecans and syrup. Pour about 1/2 of this mixture into prepared pan.
- Drop coated sugar and cinnamon biscuits into pan.
- Pour the remaining sugar mixture over the biscuits.
- Bake for 25 to 35 minutes, or until golden brown, at 350 degrees. Cool 5 minutes and invert onto a serving plate.
- Enjoy!

This looks so yummy! I am ashamed to say that I have never tried Monkey Bread before. I think instead of muffins tonight, we may try this. I’m sure it’s healthy enough to add to dinner, it is bread right? Dang, maybe not, but how about dessert?
Thanks for sharing at Shindig Saturday. I will probably throw you under the bus when the scale starts yelling at me for eating this, but I’ll only curse you a little as I have to add an extra mile to my walking routine.
